BMW Teases Z3 M-Inspired Concept Ahead Of Lake Como Reveal
BMW loves Villa d'Este, the annual event on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, sponsored by the brand, which has been the location of some of the most inspiring reveals from BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce over the last decade and a half.

2025 is no different, and among the reveals promised for this year's event is a new 'one-off' model with an elegant design and seating for two people. Now, we have our first look, and if the two shadowy teaser images shared on the brand's social media channels are anything to go by, we're about to have our hearts broken once again.

The teasers don't give away exactly what model we're looking at, but there's a definite wagon-like profile, wide hips, and a menacing stance. Combined with the promise of this being "an elegantly sporting one-off designed to provide motoring pleasure for two," we believe we could be looking at another modern interpretation of the Z3 M Coupe - similar but different to the Z4 Roadster-based BMW Concept Touring Coupe revealed in 2023.

Long Roof, Wide Hips, Elegant LED Lighting
The first image shows the rear portion of the one-off's roofline, with a true wagon-like profile culminating in a sloping rear end, not unlike that of the BMW M5 Touring that's finally reached American shores. The second view is directly from the rear, and it paints the picture of broad hips and elegant LED lighting.

Compared to the Concept Touring Coupe of two years ago, there are a lot of similarities, but BMW wouldn't show off the same concept twice, so this must be something new. Might it be an evolution of the original? Perhaps. Or it could be a shooting brake variant of some other coupe from the brand's arsenal. An M2 Touring, maybe? Who knows. The light signature is unlike any current BMW model, but calls to mind the Concept Skytop revealed in 2024 at the same event. Maybe this time around, BMW is doing a shooting brake variant of that.

Whatever it is, we don't have long to wait to see what it really is, as the reveal takes place ahead of this weekend's festivities, where BMW is also anticipated to reveal the new M2 CS.

Get Ready To Be Disappointed
But there may be bad news. The build-up materials for the event expressly call this a one-off, meaning it's unlikely to head to production. And while you might point to BMW launching 50-unit production runs of both the Skytop and the iconic 3.0 CSL, the fact that the Concept Touring Coupe never got greenlit for the same makes us think the shooting brake design just doesn't hold the same sway with billionaire Bimmer clients.

That said, there's always a chance... After the success of the 3.0 CSL, BMW admitted the low-volume coachbuilt philosophy was one that had merit, and hinted that more similar models could arrive. The Skytop has seemingly confirmed this, but whether a model heads to production or not is dependent on whether there are enough people willing to put down a substantial investment.

When the Concept Touring Coupe was unveiled, BMW hinted that a production variant would cost in the region of $250,000, but our hopes were dashed when it emerged the modern clownshoe interpretation wouldn't reach production status.

We got our hopes up once before with that Z4-based model and were disappointed, so this time around, we're approaching this one with caution. It's likely to be arrestingly beautiful, but we won't hold our breath to see it on the road anytime soon, whatever it is.
