2021 Jeep Compass Gets New Engine And Range Of Updates In Europe

It's also built in Europe, too.
The Jeep Compass is coming to Europe. Actually, it was already there, but the new Euro-spec 2021 model is now built there as well. FCA's plant in Melfi, Italy will be churning out the Compass in five trim levels, and it's also fitted with a host of tweaks, upgrades, and a new engine. Later in the year there will also be the 4xe plug-in hybrid version.
Let's talk about that new engine. The 2021 Compass for European markets gets a new turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder that's said to be 30 percent more frugal on fuel than the previous model. For the majority of the range it will make 130 horsepower (97 kilowatts), driving either the front wheels or all four. Five Compass models will be offered – Sport, Longitude, Mighty Eagle, Limited, and S – but the S model gets a retuned version of the tiny mill that makes 150 hp (112 kW).
Regardless of the trim level, Jeep buyers can now choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a new dry dual-clutch transmission for either front-wheel or all-wheel-drive models, provided you stick with the gasoline engine. A 1.6-liter diesel is also offered, making 120 hp (85 kW) and 236 pound-feet (320 Newton-meters) of torque. It's only available on models with a six-speed manual transmission turning just the front wheels.
Lastly, the plug-in hybrid 4xe will be offered in the second half of the year. It uses the 1.3-liter gas engine with an electric motor to generate either 190 or 240 hp (142 or 179 kW), and it will only be offered in four-wheel-drive trim.
Inside the new Compass, driver and passengers are greeted with the automaker's Uconnect system which is now available. It adds a range of services such as My Car and My Remote, which allows remote monitoring and locking/unlocking of the vehicle. Advanced driver-assist systems such as forward collision and lane departure warning systems are standard equipment across the lineup. Blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, parking assist, and cross-traffic alert are optional. Other changes include six new wheel options, five new exterior colors, and a redesigned tonneau cover to give the model a fresh look versus previous editions.
Pricing hasn't been announced yet. Front-wheel-drive models should reach dealerships this month, with four-wheel-drive and 4xe variants arriving later this year.
