Jimmy Buffett’s Apocalypse-Ready Ford E-350 Camper Van Just Sold for $89,500
We first brought this off-road-ready 2004 Ford E-350 camper van to your attention last week, mostly because it used to belong to Jimmy Buffett. Second, because it’s a very interesting rig, and it was up for grabs at auction to the highest bidder.

Fast-forward to today and the results are in: This custom 2004 Ford E-350 just sold for $89,500. Whether that’s too much or just right, we’ll leave it up to you guys to decide. The fact that this vehicle used to belong to Jimmy Buffett probably played a part. It was purchased from Buffett by the seller, and it’s only got 69,000 miles on its turbodiesel V8 unit.

For anybody who doesn’t already know, make sure not to confuse the late Jimmy Buffett with Warren Buffett. The latter is one of the richest businessmen in the world, with a net worth of $135.9 billion. Meanwhile, Jimmy Buffett was a musician and a bestselling author, although he was also a billionaire (with an estimated net worth of around $1 billion).

The van was converted to four-wheel drive and built into a camper by Sportsmobile West. It now comes with an extended-height roof, custom awning, hood louvers, custom bumpers, side ladders, roof bars, an ARB air compressor, a rear shower, AMP Research retractable running boards, plus a set of black-finished 16” American Racing wheels with Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx tires.

Meanwhile, interior highlights include the gray vinyl seats (power-adjustable driver’s seat), air conditioning, an Alpine touchscreen head unit, power windows, cruise control, a trailer brake controller, CB radio, an aftermarket stereo controller for the steering wheel (how European), and a custom rear compartment featuring overhead storage cabinets, a power-operated ceiling vent, residential-style outlets, a fold-down entertainment screen, sleeping surfaces, a propane furnace, overhead lighting, and more.

There’s also a kitchenette, where you get a sink, microwave, butane stove and a refrigerator. Also included in the sale were a whole bunch of personal belongings allegedly left behind by Buffett himself, such as DVDs, hats, a belt and a hand blender.

This vehicle is clearly built to withstand rough trails as well as time away from civilization. So, whether you’re out in the wilderness or simply trying to survive whatever post-apocalyptic scenario you "fancy", I think we’re looking at a decent “vehicle of choice” for such rough times.

As for what this custom van can offer you in terms of performance, all we know is that it features a 6.0-liter Power Stroke V8 turbodiesel unit, driving all four wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. How much power is there? When new, the 6.0L Power Stroke V8 would have been good for 235 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque.

According to the seller, this thing also has a towing capacity of roughly 7,000 lbs, which is decent.
