With the optional exhaust, the rear design is almost as controversial as the front.

When a fully fledged M car is still not M enough, you can count on BMW to find a way to add upgrades via its M Performance Parts catalog. Case in point, the new M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe are already being showcased with a wide array of add-ons on top of the generous equipment list you'd expect from these two range-topping models.

By far the most striking upgrade is the center-mounted exhaust system we saw on prototypes days before the big debut. Sending out somewhat of a Lexus F vibe, the polarizing setup is more than just for show as it also shaves off around five kilograms (11 pounds) compared to the standard setup. It boasts flap control to tweak the sound on the fly and has quad titanium end tips with ceramic coating. BMW says the sound it makes is inspired by race cars and changes depending on the driving mode.

Beyond the look-at-me exhaust, the M Performance Parts tailored to the new M3 and M4 also include an assortment of carbon fiber bits, varying from a front spoiler lip and canards to side skirts and a new diffuser. Customers can also get the trunk lid spoiler bathed in carbon fiber or swap it out for an attention-grabbing wing.

There are also several alloy wheel designs to choose from and can be had in sizes of up to 20 inches at the front axle and 21 inches for the rear. There's even a gold bronze matte option for those eager to get all the attention when driving down the road. Tweaks to the braking system and suspension complete the list of significant changes.

The interior can be spruced up with carbon fiber accents and Alcantara appointments as well as M-branded floor mats. BMW even offers an indoor car cover and a key wallet, while the door-mounted LED projects show off the M logo and other relevant M Performance avatars.

All of these extras will be available at the market launch of the dynamic duo next March.
