Audi TT 2.0 Leaked: Audi Leaked Its Own Sports Car 2 Days Early

Dubbed by brand officials as a "TT moment 2.0," the sports car concept will preview a revival of the sports coupe for a brand without a single two-door model in its lineup since the demise of the TT, R8, and A5 families. But in a post on Audi Canada's Facebook page, we now have a clear view of the profile of the new sports car. While the image was replaced quickly, the post wasn't deleted from the automaker's social media, and, as of the time of this writing, is still live for all to see.

TT-Influenced, Mid-Engine Proportions
Errantly uploaded as the page's cover photo before being quickly replaced by a teaser, the image shows the new sports car in profile view. There are a few clear influences here, and while the front of the glasshouse is definitely TT-inspired, the B-pillar backwards appears to have more mid-engined R8 proportions. That's an important element of the design, as it's believed this as-yet-unnamed sports car will share a platform with the next-gen Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster. That's right, this will be an electric sports car, at least in concept form. It's definitely going to production, though, as brand boss Gernot Dollner previously stated Audi needed to recapture the magic of the original TT, and that this concept would preview it. Powertrains may yet change between concept and production phases, however, as the entire VW Group, including Porsche and Audi, has revised its electrification strategy, going back to hybrids and combustion on some models. Porsche has gone so far as to declare it will engineer combustion powertrains for models previously meant to be electric only.

Clean Styling Is The Perfect Reincarnation Of The TT
With only one angle visible, and the image itself being small, we're unable to get a full perspective of the concept. But it appears to mimic the simplicity of the original TT's Bauhaus-style design language. Soft curves dominate the top line, front, and rear, but defined creases for the shoulder line and outboard edges of the front and rear bumpers add a harsher demeanor to the concept's looks. Some might notice a similarity to the Jaguar Type 00 concept, although I'd wager this pulls off the proportions far better. The oversized wheels are concept-only and will never reach production, but are likely one of only a handful of changes needed to make this production-ready.

The dead giveaway of its near-production status is the mirrors, which aren't fancy cameras. The headlights and taillights, or at least the tiny glimpse we have of them, also appear more 'normal' than Audi's traditionally crazy concepts.

We don't have long to go to see the full concept, though. The cover image Audi replaced this with is the teaser you see below, with three English words - Strive For Clarity - above a date and time. The date is September 2, and the time is 3 PM Eastern time. That means all will be revealed tomorrow before the car makes its public debut at IAA Mobility in Munich next week.
