The company offers transmission upgrades, too.

While we know an eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf GTI is on the way to European showrooms, Mountune has a new Stage 2+ upgrade package to give the seventh-gen model a big power boost. For £2,099 ($2,608 at current exchange rates), buyers can push the hot hatch to 380 horsepower (283 kilowatts) and 376 pound-feet (510 Newton-meters) of torque.

The key to the power upgrade is the IS38 turbocharger, which is the same part that gives the Golf R its boost. Mountune also creates a custom calibration for the engine to make the most from the different turbo. A handset lets owners select different settings, including Stage 2+, stock, valet, and anti-theft. As an option, Mountune also offers an upgraded clutch for manual models or revised software for the dual-clutch gearbox.

For customers who live in hot climates or intend to push the car hard like on the track, the company recommends adding an induction system, turbo-back exhaust, and upgraded intercooler. These components aren't part of the Stage 2+ kit.

Mountune sells the upgrade as a bundle that buyers can install in their garage. If you don't feel comfortable changing the turbo yourself, the company's shop in the UK can also perform the work.

For comparison, the new, eighth-gen GTI has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 241 hp (180 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm). Buyers can choose from a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The chassis upgrades include an improved DCC system that takes into account the steering, braking, and acceleration when adjusting the adaptive dampers. Inside, there's a 10-inch infotainment screen or optional 10.2-inch display with navigation.
