Celebrating six decades of all things Volante, a story that started with the Short Chassis Volante of 1965, the new Vanquish Volante builds on the metal-top sibling with a K-fold roof. The lightweight setup can be lowered in only 14 seconds and closed in 16 seconds.
The canvas top is operable at speeds no higher than 31 miles an hour (50 kilometers an hour). As expected, the roof can be opened or closed from the key fob as well, but only within a small radius (two meters or 6.6 feet) of the V12-powered thriller from Gaydon.
Aston Martin claims that the Volante's thermal insulation is comparable to that of the coupe, and the British manufacturer also waxes lyrical about the acoustically enhanced fabric roof. Stowed under a tonneau behind the seats, the roof does not hinder the oh-so-pretty lines of the carbon-heavy Vanquish Volante.
A strict two-seat machine, this fellow combines aluminum for the body structure with carbon fiber and composites for the likes of the side panels, bonnet, and outer door skins. Carbon fiber is also used for the propeller shaft. Equipped with a rear-mounted ZF automatic transmission that works together with an electronic limited-slip diff, the Volante flaunts Bilstein DTX adaptive dampers.
Gifted with double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, the 2026 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante ships with 21-inch forged wheels. Prospective customers are presented with a choice between Pirelli P Zero summer tires or Winter 2 rubber. Both feature AML markings, which means that both options were tailored for Aston Martin.
Tipping the scales at 1,880 kilograms (4,145 pounds) without fluids, the stupidly beautiful Vanquish Volante offers 187 liters (6.6 cubic feet) of trunk space with the roof stowed or 219 (7.7) closed. Under the hood, the class-leading V12 helps the stupidly powerful Vanquish Volante hit 62 miles an hour (100 kilometers an hour) in 3.4 seconds.
The 5.2-liter engine develops 835 metric ponies and 1,000 Newton-meters of twist, matching the 824 mechanical horses and 738 pound-feet of the coupe. Maximum torque is generated at 2,500 through 5,000 revolutions per minute, whereas the maximum engine speed is 7,000 revolutions per minute.
Aston Martin says that 214 miles an hour (345 kilometers an hour) is doable in the Volante, with said figure also quoted for the coupe. By comparison, the plug-in hybrid twin-turbo V8 of the Bentley Continental GT Speed and Continental GT Speed works its magic until the speedo indicates 208 mph (335 kph) or 177 mph (285 kph), respectively.
The competition further includes the 812-replacing Ferrari 12Cilindri, which offers the only free-breathing V12 in the segment as of this writing. Aston Martin hasn't announced pricing information for the Vanquish Volante, though it's pretty safe to assume that it's a handful of ten thousands pricier than the 432,700-dollar coupe.
