2025 Genesis G80 Rated Marginal in the IIHS Updated Moderate Overlap Front Crash Test

As you can tell from the video uploaded on the nonprofit organization's YouTube channel, the head of the rear passenger approached the front seatback, increasing the risk of head injuries. During the crash, the shoulder belt of the rear crash test dummy also moved too far upward.

Thankfully, the lap belt remained in the ideal position. The marginal rating is joined by three goods for the updated side test, original moderate overlap front test, and the small overlap front test. Beyond crashworthiness, the IIHS found the headlight performance to be fair or inadequate in certain driving scenarios.

The front crash prevention system was rated acceptable, following in the footsteps of the LATCH system's ease of use. According to the IIHS, the seatbelt reminders are on the lacking side as well due to the chime's low volume.

Updated for model year 2025 with a 27-inch setup that brings together the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the G80 is the Hyundai-controlled brand's answer to the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. As of this writing, it's cheaper than both.

Excluding the destination charge, Genesis USA wants $57,100 for the most basic of specifications compared to $62,450 for the E 350 and $58,700 for the 530i. But as opposed to its direct competitors, the 2025 Genesis G80 comes with all-wheel drive across the board.

2.5T AWD is what Genesis USA calls the most affordable specification of the bunch, which is rocking 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet (422 Newton-meters) of torque. Upgrading to the 3.5T AWD means $69,600 at the very least, 375 mechanical  horses, and 391 pound-feet (530 Newton-meters) at full chatter.

All trims are nicely equipped, including the 2.5T AWD. In this configuration, the G80 comes with standard leatherette upholstery, satellite navigation, and 18-inch alloy wheels, among other goodies. The Advanced builds on it with 19s, a panoramic sunroof, and premium audio from the folks at Bang & Olufsen.

Stepping up to the 2.5T Sport Prestige AWD means Advanced plus a 360-degree camera system, 20-inch sport alloy wheels, and leather seating. The most expensive trim level offers carbon-fiber trim and Nappa leather seats.

The rear-biased luxury sedan is available with a dual-motor electric setup as well, and soon enough, the high-performance G80 EV Magma Concept will morph into a series-production model. Similarly to the Genesis Electrified G80, the Magma isn't expected with segment-leading range from its high-voltage battery.

Starting at $74,375 for model year 2024, the Genesis Electrified G80 cannot do better than 282 miles (454 kilometers) on a full charge. By comparison, the most affordable Tesla Model 3 and Model S offer 363 and 410 miles, respectively.
